- [S927] Obituary.
Mettler, Marlin Eugene
Marlin Eugene Mettler 80, beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away peacefully on October 12, 2012 in Peoria, Arizona. He was born on April 4, 1932 to Eugene and Hulda Mettler in Menno, South Dakota. After graduating from East Bakersfield High School, Marlin proudly served in the United States Navy where he was an All Navy Golden Gloves Boxing Champion. He owned and operated an Automotive Repair Shop for 30 years in Bakersfield, California and was a proud member of the American Legion and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. In his later years, he traveled with friends and enjoyed life as an avid golfer and bicyclist. His famous phrase and motto "don't worry be happy" is how he lived life. Pismo Beach, California's Central Coast had been his home for the past several years, living near family, enjoying Sunday breakfasts with grandchildren, and walking the Pismo pier with his dog Buddy by his side. "Pops," as he is known to his grandchildren, is remembered as a generous, loving father, and grandfather; his never failing to say "I love you" will forever be missed. He is survived by his sons Timothy (spouse Victoria) Mettler of Glendale, Arizona and Mark (spouse Gabriella) Mettler of Los Angeles, California, six grandchildren, and sister Dorothy (spouse Jim) Gibbons of Bakersfield, California. Marlin's life will be celebrated and honored with graveside services and military honors on Friday, October 19th, 2012, 12:30 in the afternoon at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ 85029.
