FOUST--HENDERSON.--In Johnstown, at the residence of Mr. T.B. Ambrose, on Dibert street, on Thursday, October 15, 1891, at 8 o'clock, by Rev. S. Keebler, pastor of the M.E. Church, Morrellville, Mr. LEVI J. FAUST and Miss ALICE HENDERSON, both of this city.

Former Postmaster Succumbs to Heart Trouble
A TEMPLAR FUNERAL
Levi J. Foust, former postmaster of Johnstown, died at his residence, 730 Grant street, Sixth Ward, at 9 o'clock this morning after a few years' illness of a complication of diseases, including heart trouble. Mr. Foust was in his 43d year. The funeral will probably take place at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon, when the services will be in charge of Oriental Commandery, No. 63, Knights Templar, with burial in Grandview Cemetery. The services on behalf of the church will be conducted by the Rev. Walter Everett Burnett, minister of the Franklin-street Methodist Church, of which Mr. Foust had been a member since 1886.

During his boyhood days Levi J. Foust attended the Johnstown public schools and later engaged in the butchering business, which he conducted until 1896, when he opened the Palace Laundry. Mr. Foust conducted this business until December, 1904, when he was appointed postmaster of Johnstown as successor of Samuel Masters. Mr. Foust's commission was dated January 1, 1905, and he was re-appointed four years later by President Roosevelt, serving until the time of the appointment of Postmaster W.H. Strauss in June, 1913. In politics Mr. Foust was a Republican and resigned the position as Select Councilman when appointed postmaster.
The deceased was born March 25, 1872, in Indiana County, this State, and was a son of William Foust and Lovina Lehman Foust, the latter being a native of Somerset County. The Foust family came to Johnstown in the fall of 1872 and located on the South Side, where William Foust died December, 1909. He was the eldest son of Levi Foust, who was a son of Frederick and Mary Klinefelter Foust, early settlers of Foust's Mills, Somerset County. Levi Foust, sr., was born in Somerset County in 1826 and served in Company D, 186th Regiment, P.V.I., during the Civil War.
Mr. Foust was prominent in Masonic circles. He was admitted to Johnstown Lodge, No. 538, Free and Accepted Masons, in 1895 and served as Worshipful Master several years later. Mr. Foust was admitted to Portage Royal Arch Chapter, No. 195, in 1897 and was knighted by Oriental Commandery, No. 61, Knights Templar, in the same year. In 1906, Mr. Foust served as Eminent Commander of the Commandery. He was also a member of Cambria Council, No. 32, Royal and Select Master Masons. Mr. Foust was identified with Syria Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, and was a member of the Pennsylvania Consistory, 32d degree Scottish Rite Masons. He was identified with the Johnstown Lodge, Knights of Pythias, and Johnstown Lodge, B.P.O.E. He was one of the organizers of the Vincent Bible Class of the Franklin-street M.E. Sunday School and served as Treasurer of the class at one time. Mr. Foust was also a member of Speer Orr Camp, Sons of Veterans.
In October, 1891, Mr. Foust and Miss Alice C. Henderson, daughter of Robert and Rebecca Ennis Henderson, were married at the Ambrose home on Dibert street by the Rev. Solomon Keebler, who was at that time the pastor of the Morrellville Methodist Episcopal Church. Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Foust--Ralph, born November, 1893, and died January, 1899; George Henderson Foust, born May, 1901; Dwight L., born September, 1903, and Richard James, who died in May, 1906. Mrs. Foust also survives her husband, with his mother, who lives at 746 Napoleon street, and three sisters, as follows: Mrs. H.L. Wagner, of Morrellville; Mrs. Clair Craig, of Pine street, and Mrs. Kate Foust Miller, of the South Side.
