HOPEDALE - Leon C. Griesemer, 84, Hopedale, passed away at 11:17 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 27, 2009) at Proctor Hospital, Peoria.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Minier Assembly of God. Pastor Herlin R. Summers will officiate. Burial will be in Griesemer Cemetery, Hopedale. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Davis Mortuary, Hopedale Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Central Illinois Chapter, 606 W. Glen Ave., Peoria, IL 61614.
He was born Aug. 24, 1925, in Pekin, son of Lee and Marzella Johnson Griesemer. He married Mary Lora Harris on Dec. 6, 1947, in Delavan. She preceded him in death Feb. 12, 1985. He was also preceded in death by one brother.
Surviving are three daughters, Candice (Keith) Cremeens, Hopedale; Mary Ann (Michael) Fritz, Schaumburg; and Nancy (Joe) White, Mackinaw; 11 grandchildren, Matt Cremeens, Abraham (Kari) Cremeens, Amy (Martin) Hodges, Ruthie (Brandon) Myers, Andrea (Lance) Olsen, Bryant Fritz, L. Joe White, Dustin (Angie) White, Alisa (Cory) Waller, Leland White and Adam (Mindy) White; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Jean Reynar, Lincoln.
Leon was of the Christian faith and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He farmed in the Hopedale area his entire adult life and was an accomplished accordion player, entertaining and blessing many people with his gift of music. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.
