Bud Mantz, 86, Helena, Mont., formerly of Wilsall, Mont., died Oct. 19, 2002, in Helena. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MDT Wednesday at St. Margaret's Catholic Church, Clyde Park, Mont. Burial will be in the family plot at Wilsall.
Laurel "Bud" Mantz was born to Gustav and Millie (Thom) Mantz on Sept. 17, 1916, at Center. He married Anne Haag on Nov. 11, 1938. In early 1948 Anne and Bud moved with their two children, Jim and Dolly, to Wilsall, Mont., where they owned and operated a Texaco Service Station for 33 years. A third child, Sheila, was born after moving to Wilsall. They celebrated 56 years of marriage together before Anne died in 1994. Bud moved to Eagles Manor in Helena in 2000 to be near family.
He is survived by his children, James Mantz, Terry, Mont., DiAnne Mantz and her husband Frank Pollard, Helena, and Sheila and her husband Roger Marx, Newman Lake, Wash.; his brother, Robert Mantz, Great Falls, Mont.; his sister, Hilda Ritter, Billings, Mont.; a special sister-in-law, Irene Pfleger, Center; his grandchildren, Robyn Fisher, Mark Spooner, Gina Mannin, Lori Degel, Robert Mantz Ludwick, Kelli Mantz Hoffman, Paul Marx, Christa Wandowloski and Erika Wade; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judith Anne Mantz; and his faithful puppy, "Missy."
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those wishing to make a contribution send a memorial to the Lewis and Clark Humane Society, P.O. Box 4455, Helena, Mont. 59604.
The family encourages any friend of Bud's to submit a short story or memory to be read at the services.
