Born in Pittsburgh, Karene Marie was the daughter of the late Nicolas and Inez (Iannucci) Tarquin. At the age of eight, she moved with her family to Syracuse. In 1952, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in Troy where she remained a sister until 1970. While a Sister of St. Joseph, she taught at many schools including, St. Joseph's Infant Home in South Troy, kindergarten at St. Luke's School in Schenectady, second grade at St. Ann's School in Syracuse and mathematics and English at St. John the Evangelist and Bishop Grimes high schools, also in Syracuse. In 1985, she became chairperson of the College of St. Rose Art Department, and greatly contributed to its growth in reputation and enrollment numbers. In 1996, she initiated the creation of the bachelor of fine arts program which received accreditation from the New York State Education Department. Karene always enjoyed experiencing, discussing, and creating art. She would visit as many museums and galleries as she could fit into her schedule. She took great delight in introducing her granddaughters, Olivia and Sophia, to the joys of art and to the sights of New York City. For the last five years, she has taken them to Radio City Music Hall for the Christmas performance and to visit museums in the city. She also enjoyed gardening and took much pride in creating a beautiful backyard at her Albany home. Karene is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Joseph Cloud Faul; two sons, Joseph Christopher (Theresa) and David Thomas (Allison); three grandchildren, Olivia, Sophia and Emerson; her brother, Donald C. Tarquin (Janice) of Tucson, Ariz.; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at the Church of St. Vincent de Paul, 900 Madison Ave., Albany.
