Birth: Jan. 26, 1821 Hessen, Germany Death: Apr. 23, 1887 Sacramento County California, USA Sac Bee Tue 24 May 1887 In this city, Apr 23, Jacob Miller, of the lower Stockton road (brother-in-law of George Nicolaus, Louis Nicolaus & Wendel Kerth, & uncle of Matthew Steinkoening), a native of the Grand Dutchy of Hessen, aged 66 years, 3 months and 29 days. [Friends & acquaintance are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, which will take place from his late residence, northeast corner 19th & K streets, to-marrow;(Wednesday)afternoon at half past 1 o'clock;thence to the German Lutheran Church where funeral services will be held] Thanks to Valarie Vine for sharing the following bio. California pioneer. Born in Germany, Jacob emigrated to America, first to New York, then Boston, and finally to California during the Gold Rush, arriving in California in 1849 (via the Panama Route by steamer). He had apprenticed as a cabinet maker during his years in Boston, and hired on as a salesman and warehouse foreman with J.J. Clark in Sacramento. In 1869, Jacob moved to Folsom and began his own business manufacturing furniture and undertaking goods. The little town on the American River was booming with railroad enterprises, mining, and settlement by newcomers streaming into the area. His business was a successful one and he was a great promoter of Folsom. Plot 82, Pioneer Grove.
