Glenn Vern Anderson
April 24, 1923 - November 10, 2010
Glenn Vern ?Bud? Anderson, 87, Mason City, died Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 13, 2010, at the St. James Lutheran Church Chapel 1148 4th Street SE, Mason City, with Reverend Paul C. Nelson officiating. Inurnment will be held at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Hwy 122 West, Mason City, with military honors conducted by members of the Veterans Memorial Association of Mason City. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the church.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place.
Glenn Vern ?Bud? Anderson was born on April 24, 1923, in Lake Norden, South Dakota, the son of Walter Bernard and Agnes Wilhelmina (Johnson) Anderson. Glenn attended rural country school near Lake Norden, South Dakota and graduated from high school in Lake Norden. Glenn was inducted into the United States Army on December 2, 1944, in Hayti, South Dakota, and served his country honorably and faithfully during World War II, until his honorable discharge on December 14, 1946 at Ft. Lewis, Washington.
He was united in marriage to Verna Brosz on June 6, 1948, in Tripp, South Dakota, and to this union two children were born Michael and Jeffrie. Glenn lived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Ft. Dodge before moving to Mason City in 1955. Glenn worked for Thompson Distributing selling farm supplies, sold insurance for Lutheran Mutual Insurance Company, was a car salesman for several years for Price Motors, and in 1973, he began working as a machinist for David Manufacturing in Mason City, until his retirement in 1988.
Glenn enjoyed woodworking, traveling with his wife Verna around the country, wintering in Apache Junction, Arizona, taking his family camping, and teaching his sons how to hunt and fish. Glenn had a great sense of humor, and enjoyed visiting with his many friends.
He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City, was on different men?s groups at the church, and was a former member of the KIWANAS Club in Mason City.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Verna Anderson of Mason City; two sons, Michael (Linda) Anderson of Marshalltown, and Jeffrie (Beth) Anderson of Bloomfield; three grandchildren, Jill Anderson, Kirby (Dawn) Knudtson, and Christopher (Kara) Anderson; five great grandchildren, Paige Roney, Teyannah, Raevyn, and Khiya Knudtson, and Marten Anderson; a brother, Virgil (Edna) Anderson of Minneapolis, MN; two sisters, Ruby Brist of Norwood, MN, and Nadine Hanson of Mason City; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many other extended family members and friends.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Eldon Anderson.
