Gertrude K. Blind, 92
Gertrude Kathryn Becker Blind, 92, died at 10:30 p.m. Monday Nov. 6, 2006, at the Heartland HCC Georgian Bloomfield nursing home in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
Born Jan. 3, 1914, to the late Francis J. and Frances M. Bischoff Becker in Colburn, she moved several times in the Lafayette/West Lafayette area as a child. She attended St. Boniface Grade School and St. Francis High School in Lafayette.
She married Charles W. Blind on March 5, 1932. They had been married for 49 years at the time of his death on Sept. 11, 1981.
A life-long resident of this area, she worked for many years at The Fashion women's apparel store in Lafayette and later at the L.S. Ayres department store in Lafayette. She enjoyed working in fashion and retail sales and retired in 1966. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. She enjoyed physical fitness activities and gardening. As a young woman she was a violinist.
Surviving are a son, Dennis C. Blind of Lafayette (wife: Joanne M. Steiner Blind); and a daughter Carolyn S. Blind Manhart (husband: John R. Manhart) of Southfield, Mich.
Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, Lafayette, from 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday, with wake service at 3:45 p.m. Sunday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church 10 a.m. Monday, Fr. Dan Gartland officiating. Interment St. Boniface Cemetery. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Susan (Blind) Bryan of Rome, GA.; Lisa (Blind) Hobbs of Atlanta, IN.; Sharon (Blind) Boyle of Winona Lake, IN.; David Blind of Plainfield, IL.; Laura (Manhart) Gregory of Cedar Rapids, IA.; Melissa (Manhart) Ringey of Beverly Hills, MI.; and John Manhart of Northville, MI.; and 16 surviving great-grandchildren, David, Jennifer and Kathryn Bryan; John and Lauren Hobbs; Scott, Michael, Sarah and Rachel Boyle; John, Grant and Austin Gregory; Charles and Lara Ringey; and Brent and Kaitlyn Manhart.
