  [S927] Obituary. Gerhardt LeRoy Klein, 73, Minot, died on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 in a Minot hospital. LeRoy was born on September 9, 1943 in Elgin, ND to Edward and Freda (Thom) Klein. He was reared and educated in rural Mott, ND and graduated from Mott-Lincoln High School in 1961. As a young adult, he was employed on the family farmstead and also worked for Mott area farmers. LeRoy enlisted in the US Army on March 27, 1964 and was honorably discharged on February 15, 1965. Following his discharge, he returned to North Dakota and was employed by various John Deere dealers for one year. He also served as a ND Police Officer from June, 1966 until June, 1976 in towns across North Dakota. While serving as a police officer, he was also employed as a substitute school bus driver. LeRoy moved to Minot in 1977 and was employed at Northland Bus Service before his employment by the City of Minot as a bus driver in 1978. He retired in August of 2003. After his retirement, he was also employed by the Surrey School District as a bus driver for a few months. After he left Surrey School District, he drove activity bus for Bishop Ryan Catholic School for 5 years. LeRoy was a member of the American Legion and the Harvey Eagle's Club. He was a charter member of the John Deere Two-Cylinder Club. He sold and repaired digital wrist watches and was a collector and restorer of phonographs. He owned a 900 piece record collection. LeRoy was a self-taught organist. His hobbies included hunting, enjoying wildlife and the outdoors, and gardening - especially flowers. He was an avid reader and enjoyed collecting two-cylinder John Deere tractors and related equipment. LeRoy's loving family includes his sons: Tracy Klein, Minot; Jamy (Jana) Klein, San Diego; sister: LaVern Aisenbrey, Plymouth, WI and brother: Roger (Pat) Klein, Dickinson. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Freda Klein, son: Steve Allen Klein and brother-in-law: Don Aisenbrey. Liturgy of the Word Service: Tuesday April 4, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot. Interment: North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND. Visitation: One hour prior to the start of the service at the church. Memorials are preferred.
