PEORIA - The Rev. Everett G. Grese, 91, of Peoria passed away at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria.
He was born Sept. 26, 1917, in Collinsville, Ill., to William and Alma Grese. He married Vera Richter on May 2, 1943, in Concordia, Mo. She preceded him in death on Dec. 4, 1991, in Peoria.
He married Jane Oster on March 5, 1994, in Memphis, Tenn. She preceded him in death on June 25, 2001, in Memphis.
Surviving are his 11 children, William Grese of Bloomington, Ruth (Donald) Fleming of Peoria, Mary (Gene) Anders of Peoria, Judy (Dell) Schomburg of Sublimity, Ore., Vivian (David) Lieske of Janesville, Wis., Lois (John) Conner of East Peoria, Robert (Susan) Grese of Ann Arbor, Mich., Carol (William) Hinz of Austin, Texas, Rebecca Isaacs of Fond du Lac, Wis., Richard (Rebecca) Grese of Kingsport, Tenn., and Timothy (Karen) Grese of Indianapolis, Ind. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Everett was a graduate of St. Paul's College, Concordia, Mo., and Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Mo. He was ordained into the holy ministry on July 12, 1942. He served as pastor of Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod congregations in Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri and Illinois, and held district and synodical executive positions.
After retirement, he served as pastoral assistant at Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria. He later joined Redeemer Lutheran Church.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2009, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Peoria. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria and one hour prior at the church. The Revs. Ron Miller and Joe Meyer will officiate. Burial will follow the service in Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria.
Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Hillside Village Benevolent Fund or to Redeemer Lutheran Church.
