Eugene F. Zahm, 63, of 1415 North Jefferson Street, retired president and treasurer of the Allen Insurance Agency Inc., died at 8:35 p.m. Monday at his country home on the Grimm Road, north of this city. He had been in failing health five years and seriously ill six weeks.
Mr. Zahm, who engaged in the insurance and real estate business for 45 years, was born July 12, 1892 in Huntington to Louis V. and Margaret Nuck Zahm. His marriage was to Edith M. Miller June 27, 1917, in St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Mr. Zahm a resident of this city all his life, started his business career at the age of 16 years when he accepted employment with the Allen Insurance Agency. He continued with the firm, of which he was president and treasurer when he retired two years ago because of failing health. He was prominent in insurance and real estate circles during the many years he was active in business.
Mr. Zahm was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society of the church, served on the church board for several years and was a trustee of the church. He was a past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Zahm was a veteran of world War I when he was a first sergeant in the 12th division, 36th infantry. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 7, part Chef de Guerre of the 40 and 8 Volture No. 978. a past treasurer of the Elks Lodge No. 805, and a member of the Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Huntington County draft board for five years during World war II and was awarded the congressional medal for his service. He was active in Democratic politics, served as city councilman from 1946 to 1950 and was treasurer of the party's central committee for 12 years prior to 1940. He served every office in the Huntington County Board of Realtors and in the Huntington Insurance Agents Association.
Surviving are the widow, two daughters, Miss Edna M. Zahm at home, and Mrs. William (Virginia) Glasson, this city; three sons, Eldon L. Zahm, this city, Maurice E. Zahm and Larry E. Zahm, at home; three grandchildren, Cynthia I. Glasson, Michelle M. Zahm and Richard Eugene Zahm II, all of this city; two sisters, Mrs. David Roberts, Evansville, and Mrs. John J. Lacey, Wheaton, IL., and a brother, William M. Zahm, this city.
A son, Captain Richard E. Zahm, who served with the air force in World war II, was killed in action June 14, 1943.. Two brothers, George G. Zahm and Maurice E. Zahm also are dead.
The body is at the Robbins Funeral Home where friends may call and where recitation of the Rosary will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Edward A. Miller, pastor, officiating. burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Section C Lot 87E-09, with military rites at the grave by the American Legion.

Funeral services for Eugene F. Zahm were held Thursday with services at 9:30 a.m. at the Robbins Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Edward A. Miller officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were Don Purviance Jr., O.. K. Zeigler, Ray Lininger, Kenneth Triggs, Paul Hurdle, J. L. Brenn, Earl Rucher, Paul Weber, Kenneth Coyle, Louis Hohe Jr., William Bronstein, Benn Kress, Burton Stanhan, Fred Scheer, Isadore Marx, Harry Helm, Fred Wissel, John Fowerbaugh, Harry Mundus and Lawrence Eisenhauer. Active pallbearers were John Fagar, Forest L. Cook, E. A. McNamara, Lee Bowers, Philip P. Bash, William Gordon, Arthur J. Palmer and Chester Painter.
Military rites at the grave were by members of the American Legion with A. C. Young, chaplain; C. R. Bailey, bugler, and Stanford Minch, John Adams, Ernest Bailey, Harold Gesaman, Harold Babb, Tom McNally, Floyd Alshouse, Kyle D. Stober, Harry Klinger and Harold Skinner. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
