Birth: Dec. 14, 1931 Corson County South Dakota, USA Death: Jun. 4, 2003 Miles City Custer County Montana, USA Elwyn was born on December 14, 1931 in Trail City, South Dakota the son of Elwyn Lee and Evelyn Ethel (Bender) Bastian. He attended school in Trail City and in Mobridge, South Dakota. He worked for his grandfather on the family ranch until the age of 16 when he entered the Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge from the service, he moved to Miles City where he worked. Elwyn married Marie Derenberger in Miles City on June 12, 1953. Elwyn attended trade school in Fargo, North Dakota. He worked throughout the area working for Heberle Ford, Lohman Motor, and owned a Texico business for several years until he was forced to take early retirement from lingering injuries during the Korean Conflict. Elwyn is survived by his wife Marie Bastian of Miles City, MT; a son Martin Bastian of Phoenix, AZ; a daughter Lisa Marie Friemark and her husband Wayne of Bozeman, MT; four brothers: Charles and his wife Diana of Dickinson, ND; Milton and Kathy of Red Lodge, MT; David of Red Lodge, MT; and Jim and his wife Cathy of Miles City, MT; a sister Norma Jean Chapman and her husband Alan of Green Valley, AZ; two grandchildren: Michelle and Anthony; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Grace Jensen and Elvina Birkholv; and two brothers at infancy.
