Donald H. Buechlein, age 77, of Huntingburg, passed away at 11:30 p.m., Friday, August 30, 2013 at his residence.
He was born December 9, 1935 in Jasper, Indiana to George and Theresia (Fritz) Buechlein.
Don graduated from Jasper High School in 1952 and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1953-1956.
He married Dorothy Striegel on October 4, 1958 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville.
He worked as a mechanic for D.M.I. and Styline; and retired as a purchasing manager for Paoli, Inc.
Don participated in various leadership roles in Boy Scouting for over 25 years. During his interim as Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 181, he helped 21 young men achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Y.M.I. Club, V.F.W. Post 2366, and the Huntingburg Conservation Club. He enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, woodworking, gardening, and watching sports on television especially the St. Louis Cardinals, I.U. Basketball and Colts Football.
He was preceded in death by: one son, Mark Buechlein; one daughter, Teresa Buechlein; and two brothers, Maurice Buechlein and Ambrose Buechlein.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Buechlein of Huntingburg; four daughters and four son-in-laws, Annette "Ann" (Dave) Duncan of Huntingburg, Geralyn (David) Walker of Indianapolis, Christina "Chris" (Andrew) Rodabough of Indianapolis, and Donna (Tony) Eckert of Huntingburg; two sons and one daughter-in-law, John (Tracy) Buechlein of Lamar, and Thomas Buechlein of Louisville, KY; one brother, David Buechlein of Jasper; two sisters, Mary Schmitt and Virginia Knies, both of Jasper; and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services for Donald H. Buechlein will be held at 10:00 a.m., E.D.T., on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post 2366 Memorial Detail.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00-8:00 p.m., on Tuesday. At 3:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
A rosary will be led by Jasper High School's Class of 1952 followed by a memorial service conducted by the Y.M.I. Club.
