Dick Duane Fyock, 86

ALAMOSA – Longtime Center resident and lifetime San Luis Valley resident, Dick Duane Fyock, 86, passed away at his residence at The Bridge at Alamosa on Jan. 18, 2016.
Dick was born on Jan. 13, 1930 in Monte Vista to Lester and Blanche (Penney) Fyock.
Dick’s father Lester came to the San Luis Valley from Kansas in 1902 and eventually established the family farm and residence on County Road B west of Center with his wife Blanche. Dick was raised on the family farm with his brother Leslie (“Les”) and sister Blanche. Dick attended school in Center where he made lifelong friends and enjoyed playing on the Center High School football team. He graduated from Center High School in 1948 and married his high school sweetheart, Mary Lou (Kimsey) Fyock on June 6, 1949.
Dick and Mary Lou were happily married for 63 years before Mary Lou passed away in December 2012. To this union his daughter Dwana and son Brent were born.
Dick worked very hard to support his family and held multiple different occupations before his final career as a builder and carpenter. After his marriage he started out farming potatoes with his father Lester. He then leased and managed the Gunbarrel Station west of Center. After moving on from the Gunbarrel Station he leased and managed the Center Tire Store. After moving on from the Center Tire Store, Dick found his true passion as a builder and carpenter. Dick took great pride in producing high quality carpentry work for his customers and he gained many friends throughout his career.
Dick’s greatest joy came with spending time with his family and many friends. He and his wife Mary Lou facilitated many memorable times camping and vacationing with their family and hosting dinners and events for family and friends at their home in Center. He also loved attending sporting events, band performances, and other school functions that his children and grandson were involved in. Later in life he enjoyed taking drives in the mountains surrounding the San Luis Valley and spending time with his great-grandson Paxton. Lastly, he enjoyed watching his favorite professional sports team, the Denver Broncos, on Sundays with his family.
Dick was proud to be a Freemason, having been a member for over 50 years of the Temple Gate Lodge in Center and Monte Vista Lodge, as well as, the Scottish Rite of the Southern Colorado Consistory Lodge. Dick was a member of the Center United Methodist Church and he served on various boards of directors and committees in the San Luis Valley.
Dick is survived by his son Brent Fyock of Center; his daughter-in-law Marcia Fyock of Alamosa; his daughter Dwana (Tommy) Stevens of Paris, Ky.; his grandson Nathan (Kari) Fyock of Grand Junction and his great-grandson Paxton Fyock of Grand Junction.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Blanche Fyock, his sister Blanche Pepper, his brother Les Fyock, and his wife Mary Lou Fyock
Services were held Saturday, Jan. 23 at the United Methodist Church in Center.
