Dean Kester St. Clair, a lifelong resident of Salesville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior and his loving wife, Lois, and family on January 23, 2011. For those who knew him, he was a person of great faith which showed in his personality and actions. He had been a resident of the Emerald Pointe Nursing Home of Barnesville.
Dean was born on the St. Clair Family Farm in Salesville on February 23, 1925 and resided there for eighty-five years where he grew up as a child and also raised his family.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Lois (Seebach) St. Clair on July 19, 2009; his parents, Edgar Dean St. Clair and Ethel (Kester) St. Clair; and his brother, James “Galen” St. Clair.
He is survived by his two children, Beth (Scott) Linton and Eric (Susan) St. Clair; four grandchildren, JD (Tabby) Linton, Max Linton, Ryan St. Clair, and Sara St. Clair; a great-granddaughter, Mikaela Linton; a step-granddaughter, Carrie Linton; step-great-granddaughters, Jayden Rice and Kaytee Rice; sisters-in-law, Madalyn St. Clair of Cincinnati and Cleo Seebach Anderson of Sun City Center FL; several nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends.
Dean was a master craftsman, having built their family home and many items in the home. He loved spending his time in his workshop making “sawdust” and could turn a piece of wood into a beautiful handmade item. He made numerous wooden crosses, which he gave as gifts to family and friends. Dean also built muzzleloader guns, which are treasured by his family today.
Dean was an avid gun collector and enjoyed shooting trap & skeet his entire life. Many friends would gather at the family farm for “barnyard trap shoots”. Lots of stories were told during these shoots and special memories were made. He was especially proud that his son and three grandsons enjoyed guns and shooting trap. A favorite saying of Dean’s was “keep your powder dry”. He enjoyed playing hide & seek and checkers with his granddaughter, Sara.
Dean and Lois enjoyed their retirement years camping and attending festivals throughout the state of Ohio. He was a lifelong member of the Salesville United Methodist Church, National Rifle Association, and the National Muzzleloading Rifle Association. Dean worked at Lingo’s Hardware and retired from Monogram Metals in Cambridge.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday (January 26, 2011) from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Wib Bragg officiating.
Burial will follow at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Salesville United Methodist Church, 60601 Rose Hill Road, Salesville OH 43778.
