Beatrice "Betty" K. Landeis Hanson
Betty Hanson passed peacefully and quietly on September 18, 2009. Betty was known lovingly by her family and close friends as "Lady". Her room at the Sequoia where she was living was adorned with lady-bugs from her friends and family.
'Lady' was born December 1, 1911 in Crown Butte N.D. to Ludwig and Eva (Schaff) Landeis. She was one of seven children. Raised and schooled in N.D. she graduated from Flasher High School in 1932 and later graduated from Western College of Commerce.
In 1933 she married Julian Hanson in Flasher N.D. and after 61 years of marriage he preceded her in death in 1994. In 1934 they had a daughter Artyce . In 1935 the family moved to Burlington, Wa. They were self employed with a strawberry farm, while also working at Carnation Milk and at the Washington Egg Co-op. Then in 1948 they moved to the Wenatchee area, owning Hansons Motor Lodge that had the areas first swimming pool. In the 1980s Betty and her husband moved to the Olympia area to be close to their family.
Betty and her husband traveled to Europe several times, first in 1955 to visit their daughter Artyce and her husband and later in the 1970s to Norway and Asia with groups of friends.
They traveled by RV in their golden years touring the Southwest.
Betty was a member of Sons of Norway, Lady Lions, Elks and numerous card groups. She was a active card player and loved a good JOKE. Betty had an incredible green thumb and could grow anything. She could cook up a meal fit for a king at the drop of a hat. When diagnosed with breast cancer in 1967 she beat the odds and was a 42 year cancer survivor.
Betty is survived by her daughter Artyce; 3 granddaughters, Connie Cook (Kirby), Teri Frederick, Kristie Tedford; 7 great-grandchildren, Peter Cook (Danielle), Cameron Cook (Abby), Amber Hein (Jason), Brandon Frederick, Kory Frederick, Daniel Frederick, Alanthus Tedford; and 4 great-great-grandchildren, Halle Cook, Jordan Cook, Cash Cook, Mila Hein.
She was preceded in death by her husband Julian of 61 years; her parents and 5 of her siblings.
Her family greatly thanks the nursing staff on the 11th floor of St. Peters Hospital, Evergreen Nursing and Rehab Center, and The Sequoia for their kindness and compassion.
