Angela Fern Johnson, 76, Mandan, died March 15, 2002, at her home in Mandan. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher officiating.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with a Catholic Daughters rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish rosary and vigil beginning at 7 p.m., all at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.
Angela Helbling was born July 18, 1925, in Mandan, the daughter of Peter and Rose (Renner) Helbling. She was raised on the Helbling Hereford Ranch, and educated at the Morton County rural and St. Joseph's Catholic schools. She graduated from Mandan Senior High School in 1943. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Gamble Store. Angie married Leif Johnson on Nov. 20, 1945. They farmed and ranched together southwest of Mandan until retiring to their new home in Mandan in 1982.
Angie was a fun-loving person, devoted wife, loving mother and attentive grandmother. Her loving family was Angie's greatest joy. She was an outstanding cook and impeccable homemaker, and a green thumb came naturally to her.
Angie loved to dance, sew, entertain, play cards and go out to eat. She had boundless energy that she shared by helping others. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters and the Eagles.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Leif; four sons and three daughters-in law, Roger and Connie Johnson, Bismarck, Vernon and Diane Johnson, Fargo, and Tim Johnson and Tom and Stephanie Johnson, all of the family farm; one daughter, Gayle Johnson, Santa Fe; her grandchildren, Tiffany and Tim Kramer, Cedar, Minn., Sara Johnson, Minneapolis, Ross Johnson, Grand Forks, Kari and Adam Johnson, both of Fargo, and Melissa Edwards, Santa Fe, N.M.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Monika Eckroth and Ida and Hal Robinson; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Jack Helbling and Matt and Christine Helbling; and many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceeded in death by her parents; her infant twin daughters; her grandson, Chad; and her namesake and godmother, Fern Welk.
Special appreciation to St. Alexius Medical Center and Hospice Prime Care, and the doctors, nurses and medical providers who helped Angie throughout her illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
