Aberdeen - Mass of Christian Burial for Alice Y. "Babe" Dutenhoeffer, 70, Aberdeen, will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2006. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Aberdeen. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Father Gregory Tschakert officiating. Liturgical wake service will be 5 p.m. Sunday, March 19, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, Aberdeen. Visitation is 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary and one hour prior to the funeral mass on Monday at the church. Alice passed away Thursday, March 9, 2006, in El Cajon, Calif. after a courageous battle with cancer. Alice Yvonne Usselman was born July 25, 1935, to Adam and Emma (Weber) Usselman at Mina, S.D. She attended school at Mina and later in Aberdeen. She married Arnold Berreth in 1953. They had four children, Carolyn, Dorothy, Steven and Mary. She married Merlin Schinke in 1971. They had one daughter, Allison. Alice was employed at Dakota Midland Hospital from September 12, 1971, until it closed May 4, 1988. She then worked at St. Luke's Hospital until she retired January 25, 1998. Alice married Kenny Dutenhoeffer on Aug. 18, 2000. In Kenny she had found her soul mate. They were completely devoted to each other. They enjoyed dancing, spending time with friends, and traveling. Each day was a new adventure in their life together. They spent their summers in Aberdeen and their winters in El Cajon, Calif. Spending time with friends and grandchildren was the joy of her life. In January 2006, Alice learned she had cancer. She faced her illness with courage. She received an overwhelming amount of cards and phone calls. When asked what could be done to help, she asked for their prayers. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Kenny of El Cajon, daughters, Carol (Rod) Eisenbeisz, Dorie (Lloyd) Schock, Mary Malsom all of Aberdeen and Allison (Todd) Howell of Sioux Falls, S.D., her son Steve (Diane) Berreth of Aberdeen, her stepson, Brad (Mikki) Dutenhoeffer of El Cajon, Calif., her sister, Dorothy Janisch of Valley City, N.D., and her aunt, Honey Gese of Lake Havasu, Ariz. She was lovingly called Nana by 10 grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren. Waiting for her in heaven are her parents, her brother, Joe Usselman, two grandchildren, Stacey Alice Eisenbeisz and Baby Malsom, and one great-grandchild, Bennet William Schock. Pallbearers will be her son, Steven, grandsons, Michael Eisenbeisz, Scott Eisenbeisz, Patrick Schock, Ryan Malsom, and Mathew Malsom. We will miss her always and take comfort in knowing she is watching over all of us.
