ARTHUR AND MARTHA BECK Arthur Herman Beck was born October 22, 1902 in Emmons County, North Dakota to Jacob and Sophie (Kallenberger) Beck. Jacob Beck was born in Russia on August 11, 1878 and died April 13, 1928. Sophie Beck was born November 9, 1877 in South Russia and died on January 23, 1963. Arthur was one of nine boys. He attended school in Emmons County, North Dakota, and lived on a farm northeast of Linton. Arthur H. and Martha Beck On February 14, 1924 he married Martha Margaret Bertsch of Eureka. They established their home on a farm northeast of Linton where they lived until 1934 when they moved to Eureka. In 1942, they moved on a farm and farmed until 1954 when they moved to Eureka where both Arthur and Martha worked in the Lutheran Home. Arthur was also employed by the McPherson County highway department until his retirement. Martha's parents were Gottlieb F. and Salomea (Schaeffer) Bertsch. Gottlieb was born in Bergdorf, Russia on February 20, 1865 and died February 6, 1929. Salomea was born November 7, 1869 and died August 22, 1931. Martha was one of sixteen children. Four children were born to Arthur and Martha. Ervin was born February 5, 1925, married Hazel Zimmerman, and is living in Eureka. Floreine was born May 27, 1926, married Theodore Wiedrich, and is living in Rapid City, South Dakota. Delores was born June 4, 1932, married Harry Bertsch, and is living near Eureka. Helmuth was born December 10, 1934, married Verna Albrecht, and is living in Dickenson, North Dakota. The church affiliation for the Beck family was United Church of Christ. Arthur died December 10, 1978 in Eureka. Martha died October 21, 1978 in Eureka.
