The cause of death was a heart attack. He was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Temperanceville, Belmont Co., OH. He married Amy Eleanor Burkhard on 31 Aug 1909 in Miltonsburg, Monroe Co., OH.
In 1910, newlyweds Earnest (22) and Amy (21) Pfeffer rented a farm in Beaver Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Ernest was born in Ohio to German-born parents. They shared their dwelling with the family of Joe Hughs.
At the time of the 1920 census, Earnest J. Pfeffer (31) owned a farm in Somerset Twp., Belmont County, Ohio. He lived there with his wife Amy and children Joseph (9), Madeline M. (4), and Carl F (3 yrs 1 mo). Only Joseph attended school. The Pfeffer shared their farm with the Hayes family. The farm next to Ernest's was that of 70 year old Joseph Pfeffer.
In 1930, Ernest (42) and Amy (40) Pfeffer owned a farm worth $5000 in Somerset Twp. where they lived with their four children: Joseph (19), Mary M. (15), Carl (13), and Caroline (5 yrs 2 mos). Mary and Carl attended school. Unlike most of their neighbors, the Pfeffer family owned a radio set.

BARNESVILLE -- Ernest Joseph (Jim) Pfeffer, 75, of near Temperanceville died at
7:30 a.m. Wednesday at his home after suffering an apparent heart attack. Mr. Pfeffer
was born in Somerset Township near Temperanceville Dec 31, 1887 a son of Joseph and
Aunigunda Kronenbitter Pfeffer. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Pfeffer married the
former Amy Burkhard on Aug 31, 1909.
Surviving are his widow of the home, a son, Joseph T. Pfeffer of Escondido, Calif.,
two daughters, Mrs. Madeline Schumacher of Woodsfield, and Mrs. Caroline Reichman of
Quaker City Route 4; three sisters, Mrs. Louise Gallagher of Quaker City Route 4, Mrs.
Rose Hughes and Mrs. Eva Gallagher, both of Barnesville; 20 grandchildren and nine great-
grandchildren. Two sons preceded him in death.
Mr. Pfeffer was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Temperanceville. Friends
may call at Campbell Funeral Home in Barnesville after 1 p.m. Friday. Rosary will be
recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Services will be held at St. Mary's Church
at 10 a.m. with Father Donald Swendemman officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery
at Temperanceville.
