Clinton MO - Mrs. Frank P. Diehl died at her home, south of Lewis Station, Saturday, at 10:00 a.m., after a two months' illness with heart trouble. Lillie G. Showalter, daughter of Jacob and Sarah Beaty Showalter, was born one mile east of Lewis Station February 24, 1869, and spent all her life near this community, attending East rural school and Calhoun high school. February 15, 1896, she was united in marriage to Frank Phillip Diehl of Lewis Station. To this union were given five children, one having died in infancy. She is survived by her husband and the following children; Mrs. Opal E. Brockway of the home; Mrs. Lewis Newman, near Lewis Station; Mrs. John Hobson, Clinton; Virgil G. Diehl, Sheridan, Wyoming. Others left to mourn her passing are her grandchildren: Wayne Brockway, Calhoun; Junior and Bobby Newman, Lewis Station; Carroll and Betty June Hobson, Clinton; Dorothy and Richard Diehl, Sheridan, Wyoming, also her sister, Mrs. C. L. Wiley, of Calhoun. All the children were here during her last illness except Virgil Diehl, who was unable to leave his work to make the long trip. A faithful wife, devoted mother, ever thoughtful of and sympathetic for those about her, giving her unceasing efforts for her family and neighbors, ever lending a helping hand to those less fortunate than herself. She was beloved by all who knew her for her cheerfulness, generosity and kindness of heart, and hers is a great loss to the community and her many friends. When about 16, she gave her life to the keeping of Christ and united with the Bronaugh Methodist church, and held her membership there until her marriage when she transferred it to Drakes Chapel, which was nearer her home. She put the teaching of the Master into everyday living. She was ever concerned about the spiritual welfare of her children, husband and friends. She came from one of Henry County's best families, the lovely large home where she died is on a hill with a wonderful view of the surrounding country. This house is on a part of the large acreage she inherited from her parents. She was first a homemaker but loved the out-of-doors and living things especially enjoyed her poultry and sheep. Their care became a part of her life and she excelled in this as in every other undertaking. Funeral services were conducted Monday, at the Calhoun Methodist church. Burial was in Calhoun cemetery, Winkinson funeral service in charge.
