Bosworth attended LSU before enlisting in the US Air Corps in 1941 at the age of 21. Commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in 1942, he was trained as a pilot for the B-17 Flying Fortress, a four-engine heavy bomber aircraft, and during WWII participated in 51 missions in North Africa, Sicily and southern Italy. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross for a mission on Christmas Day, 1943, when he safely landed his aircraft after two engines were shot out of his plane over Brenner Pass. He ended his tour as a Major, receiving the Air Medal and eight Oak Leaf Clusters. An interview with Maj. Bosworth about his war-time experiences is included in the collection of the National WWII Museum in New Orleans. Remaining in the U.S. Air Corps Reserve until 1957, he married Mary Louise Moser in 1947. He joined Moser Realty, his wife’s brothers’ real estate firm in Dallas, TX. where they settled down and raised six children.
