AckermanRite SaturdayA requiem Mass will be offered at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's Church for Raymond J (Midge) Ackerman, 64, Democrat and Chronicle circulation statistician and longtime sports figure, who died yesterday (April 25, 1962). His home was at 95 Locust St.Friends may call at Miller Brothers Funeral Home, 474 Lyell Ave., from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. An 8:30 a.m. prayer service will be held at the funeral home prior to the requiem Mass. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.Mr. Ackerman announced professional wrestling programs for many years at Egerton Park and at the War Memorial. He also announced amateur fights at the old Elks Club.Rochester-born, Mr. Ackerman attended the old Cathedral High School and was graduated from West High. He worked for Fashion Park, Inc., and for McFarlin Clothing Co. before joining the newspaper's circulation department in 1942.A man of versatile talents, he appeared in vaudeville shows for years, fought as an amateur boxer, played semi-pro football and basketball, and as a swimmer once won Rochester's fancy diving title. Mr. Ackerman was a World War I veteran.Although Mr. Ackerman for several years had been suffering from a heart ailment, he kept on working.He leaves his widow, Jane Hurlburt Ackerman and a son, Bruce.
