Jacob R. DukartSeptember 12, 2003
Jacob R. Dukart passed away peacefully on September 12, 2003, with family at his side.
He was born, the first of two children, to Rochus and Rosa Dukart, on December 19, 1922, on their farm near Kingsford, Sask. In 1949 his family moved to Estevan, and in 1950 Jacob married Theresa Wanner of Torquay.
His life was spent farming and raising their 10 children in the Bienfait and Estevan districts. Jacob was very committed to his religion, family and community. He served his church as an altar boy and in the Knights of Columbus, and was often available to help in the Parish and community wherever needed. Over the years, he served his community as a councillor for Rural Municipality No. 5, and as a member of the St. Joseph's Hospital Board, as well as the Municipal and City of Estevan Joint Planning Committee.
Leisure activities enjoyed most by Jacob were playing ball, and cards (especially whist), curling, and sharing jokes and humorous stories from the past with friends and relatives, as well as rousing discussions about the politics of the past, present, and future. Over the years Jacob was a member of the Bethel Community Club, Over 55 Club of Bienfait and the German Club of Estevan. Jacob's active life came to an end after a 4-year battle with cancer.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Theresa; children: Barbara (Les) Bohrson of Swift Current, Joan (Fred) Lash of Regina, Jane (Mathew) Marcotte of Torquay, Don (Marian) Dukart of Estevan, Carole (Knud) Jensen of Bienfait, Duane (Josee) Dukart of Revelstoke, B.C., Lauretta (David) Murphy of Estevan, Kevin (Jan) Dukart of Whitehorse, Yukon; Greg (Fern) Dukart of Macoun; Audrey (Jeff) Johner of Estevan; one sister, Katherine Wanner of Estevan; 25 grandchildren; one great grandchild; sisters-in-law: Pat Weiler, Sr. Anne Wanner, Connie (Pat) Conlon, Mary Novak; brothers-in-law: Matte (Jeanne) Wanner, Alphonse (Lucy) Wanner, William (Adeline) Wanner, Paul (Kay) Wanner, Ed (Etta) Wanner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jacob was predeceased by his parents, Rochus and Rosa Dukart; granddaughter, Aimee Lash; grandson, James Dukart; father-in-law, Mathias Wanner; mother-in-law, Pauline Wanner; sister-in-law, Verna Wanner; brothers-in-law: Anthony Wanner, Joseph Wanner, Walter Novak, and Peter Weiler.
A prayer service was held on September 15, 2003 at the Boire Funeral Home Chapel in Estevan. The family deeply appreciates having friend and distant relative, Fr. George Dukart of North Dakota, to lead the prayers for Jacob.
The funeral Mass was held at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church on September 16, 2003, with Fr. L. Crozon officiating, assisted by Fr. P Nijssen and Fr. George Dukart. Readers were granddaughters Carolyn Murphy and Megan Dukart.
Jacob's family is grateful to Fr. Nijssen for his comforting words, and to singers, Briget Bittman and Christie Phillips, for their beautiful uplifting music. The presence of members of the Knights of Columbus who attended as altar servers and honourary pallbearers was much appreciated.
Theresa and family deeply appreciate the many people who telephoned, visited, or sent cards, flowers, food, Mass requests, and Memorial donations to St. Joseph's Hospital Fund.
