A 1970 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, he received a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. He attended Fleetwood Bible Church, Fleetwood. He was a member of the Evergreen Soccer Club, Fleetwood, since 1970. He played soccer for the Evergreen Soccer Club and was also a member of its old-timers soccer club. He was a member of the Topton Fish and Game Association and Lyons Fire Company.
