Bio: Robert "Bob" Charles Yantz, age 83 of Bristol, TN passed suddenly from this life to eternal life with his Lord and Savior on Jan 4th, 2013.He was born July 3, 1929 in Louisville, Kentucky to Carl and Sallie Yantz, who predeceased him. He attended Greathouse Elementary, Barrett Junior High, and Manual High School in Louisville, KY, and then obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Chemical Engineering from the Speed Engineering School at the University of Louisville in 1953. Bob moved to Kingsport, TN in 1953 to begin his career with Tennessee Eastman Kodak Company, retiring in 1987. He was a 1962 charter member of the Sertoma Club of Kingsport and remained a long-time active member, serving as local president, Northeast Regional Governor of Sertoma International, and several other offices. Bob was active in numerous March of Dimes telethons. As a long term member of Waverly Road Presbyterian Church, he taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon and Elder. He volunteered for many other civic groups in and around East Tennessee. He loved playing with the Charles Goodwin Orchestra for 45 years and the Has Beens dance band for more than 30 years, playing the saxophone and clarinet. Bob was a happy man who enjoyed life wherever he went, was a master craftsman spending many hours in his home workshop, and was a loving husband and father to his four children.His wife, Shirley Bruce, will greet him in Heaven, passing to her eternal life just eight weeks ago.Surviving Bob are his sister Sally Morgan of Lexington, KY; the mother of his four children, Laura Jane Yantz of Kingsport; daughters Cathy (Chip) Reinhardt of Durham, NC; Vicki Jennings (Dwight Hinch) of Nashville, TN; Barbara Yantz Jereb of Longview, TX; and son, David (Jan) of Springfield, VA; nephew Craig (Cheryl) Morgan of Lexington, KY; step-son H.G. "Jerry" (Judy) Bruce III of Bristol, TN; step-daughter Rebecca Bruce (Bob) Zeiger of Bristol, TN. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren - Chris (Rebecca) Reinhardt, Carey (Chris) Hemp, Caitlin (Dan) McGrath, Patrick Reinhardt (all of North Carolina); Andrew Jereb, Michael (Erin) Jereb, David Jereb (all of Texas); Laura (Michael) Yantz Britton of Raleigh, NC, Anna Yantz, Rebecca Yantz, Alissa Yantz, and Jonathan Yantz (all of Springfield, VA); and four step-grandchildren - Kristi (Josh) Taylor, Bambi Bruce, and H.G. Bruce IV (all of Bristol), Ryan (Candis) Zeiger of Johnson City. Bob also has five great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.Memorials may be sent to Wellmont Hospice, 280 Steele's Rd., Bristol, TN 37620; St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or March of Dimes, 2313 Browns Mill Rd., Johnson City, TN 37604.A memorial service to honor Bob's life will be held at 3 PM, Saturday, Jan 12th at Anderson Street United Methodist Church, 954 Anderson Street, Bristol, TN 36720 with the Reverend Barbara Doyle presiding. Visitation with the family will be from 1 - 3 PM, Saturday, Jan 12th, also at Anderson Street United Methodist Church. Honorary pall bearers are members of the Charles Goodwin Orchestra and the Has Beens.
