He married Rita Ortman on April 18, 1953, in Fort Richardson, Ala., and she survives.Other survivors include his daughters, Sherry (husband, John) Haynes of Indianapolis, Lynn (husband, Rick) Sams of Brookville and Carol (husband, Ted) Hunter of Connersville; sons, R. Kent (wife, Marsha) Apsley of Shelbyville, Don (wife, Karen) Apsley of Brookville and Dave (wife, Barbara) Apsley of Wellston, Ohio; sisters, Norma Jean Skinner, Marilyn Scaggs and Vivian Moles, all of Liberty, Nedra Smith and Nancy Webb, both of Florida; brother, Alton Apsley of Florida; grandchildren, Joe (wife, Tara) Haynes, Chris Haynes, Krista (husband, Justin) Boggs, Michelle (husband, Matt) Shorten, Benjamin Moffett-Apsley, Ethan Apsley, Jared Phillips, Megan Apsley, Matthew Apsley, Alan Apsley, Samantha Apsley, Evan Apsley, Katherine Apsley, Aaron Apsley, Jessica Apsley, William Apsley, Chad (wife, Jill) Hunter, Blake Hunter and Ian Hunter; and great-grandchildren, Taylor Shorten and Lila Hunter.He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Oscar and Mary Huber and Emmett and Lena Apsley.Mr. Apsley retired from Philco-Ford in 1986, after 36 years of service.He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from Feb. 1, 1952, to Nov. 9, 1953.Mr. Apsley was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Brookville, 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus and 50-year member of Bernard Hurst Post No. 77 American Legion, where he served on the firing squad.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cook Funeral Home, 929 Main St. in Brookville and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, with the rosary recited at 10 a.m., at St. Michael Catholic Church, 145 St. Michael Blvd. in Brookville.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Bill Ehalt officiating.Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery in Brookville, with military rites conducted by Bernard Hurst No. 77 American Legion.Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael School, the American Legion Firing Squad, Knights of Columbus or the donor's choice of charities.
