Bio: CLIFTON PARK Dr. Matthew Curley, 28, passed away unexpectedly on August 29, 2011 during a family vacation. Born in Houston on September 26, 1982, Matt was the son of Robert and Mary Curley of Clifton Park and the brother of Dr. Brian Curley of San Diego. He is survived by grandmothers, Gertrude Curley of Toms River, N.J., and Helene Michalik of Ballston Lake, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins. Matt was a 2000 graduate of Shenendehowa High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and co-captain of the Nordic Ski Team. He was an Empire State Winter Games medal winner in ski orienteering. He was an active participant in Clifton Park Baseball for many years and an avid Red Sox fan. Matt graduated from Bucknell University with a degree in cell biology/biochemistry and a minor in art. Following college, he did cancer research in a lab at SUNY Albany. He later attended New York Medical College, where he obtained his M.D. degree. Most recently, Matt was a third year resident in emergency medicine at St. Luke's/Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City, where he was highly respected and well-loved. A Mass of Resurrection for the soul of Matt will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 10 at Corpus Christi Church, Route 9 and Ushers Road, Round Lake. A reception will follow at the family home. A scholarship fund is being created in Matt's name to support residents who share his interest in wilderness medicine.
