He and his twin, Flossie, were actually 6 months old at the time. This date of birth is consistent with census data in 1900, 1905 (Iowa again), 1910, 1915, and 1920. It is not until the 1925 South Dakota census that he is reported as 2 or 3 years younger so it is possible his date of birth on the headstone is in error.
