He married Elisabeth Froehlich (1847-1900) in 1866. They had at least 10 children.....Martin, Johan(John), Karolina, Fredrick, Jacob, Christina, Adam, Elisabeth, Matheis (Matt) and Katherina. Elisabeth died in 1900. Ludwig married his second wife, Rosina Rau, in 1901. In 1902, he and most of his family immigrated to The United States arriving in New York City on Apr 29, 1902. The family worked their way to South Dakota where the family settled until about 1909 when Ludwig went to homestead in the Mott/Elgin area of North Dakota with some of his sons. Ludwig died at the home of his son, Matt. He is buried in an unmarked grave at Neuburg Congregational Cemetery but memorialized with others on a large stone on the cemetery property.
