Bio: Funeral Time: Friday, April 7th at 10:30AMMatthew Joseph Amato, Jr., 85, husband of M. A. S. Amato, his wife of 62 years, died Monday, April 3, 2006 at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.He was born Feb. 9, 1921 in Lexington, son of the late Matthew Sr. and Kathleen Fitzpatrick Amato. He was a graduate of Lexington Latin School, attended the University of Kentucky and was a graduate of the University of Hawaii. He was a fighter pilot in the Army Air Corps during WW II and was stationed in Hawaii. From 1956 to 1988 he was employed by the Ky. Dept. of Highways, Comprehensive Care, Inc., River Region Services and Ky. Cabinet for Human Resources where he retired in 1988 as Executive Director of Personnel. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church since 1951. He was a former 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Barbershop Quartet.He was preceded in death by five sisters, Vincena Amato, JoAnn (Amato) McKinney, Elisabeth (Forman) Rives, Kathleen (Forman) Warren and Justina (Forman) Modica, and a brother, William Forman.Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Cathedral of Christ the King, 299 Colony Blvd., by Father Larry Hehman. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main St.Contributions may be made to Thomson-Hood Veterans Center, 100 Veterans Drive, Wilmore, KY 40390 or the Alzheimer's Association, 165 Dove Run Road, Lexington, KY 40502.
