Ludwig was born in Friedenstal, Bessarabia, Russia (nearest large town Odessa). He married Katherine Kallis in Arcis, Bessarabia on December 4, 1885. Immigrated to North Dakota from Bessarabia with his family in 1903, probably at the encouragement of his brother Jakob Friedrick Aichele who came over in 1889. He made a petition for naturalization in Wells Co., ND on May 7, 1902, but died before his second/last papers were filed to prove up his homestead claim. Katherine pursued the homestead claim. Some sources say Ludwig died in Tuttle, Kidder County, ND (hospital?). Ludwig and Jakob were two of the eight children of Joseph Bernhard Aichele and Katharina Elisabetha Litz, but not all lived past childhood.
