Anna Hoffman, 91, Mandan, died Jan. 2, 2003, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Vincent's Nursing Home, Bismarck, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Catholic Daughters rosary will begin at 4 p.m. A parish vigil will begin at 8 p.m. Sunday at Christ the King Church, Mandan. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church.
Anna Schwab was born Jan. 22, 1911, in a sod home at Yucca, the daughter of John and Julia (Heintz) Schwab. She attended rural Oliver County schools and married Joseph C. Hoffman on June 22, 1939, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Hazen. They farmed in the Odense area before moving to Mandan in 1945. Anna was employed at Cloverdale Foods and as a cook for the American Legion, St. Joseph's School and the Mandan Hospital. She was also a Stanley dealer for over 25 years. Anna had been a resident of the St. Vincent's Care Center since 1995.
Anna enjoyed dancing, visiting and baking bread and donuts. She loved to travel and entertain her friends. Her hobbies included embroidery and playing cards. She was a member of the Mandan American Legion and Eagles Auxiliaries and the St. Vincent Verein. She had been a member of Catholic Daughters since 1958.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Tony Wetsch, Mandan, and Kathy and Dick Eckert and Margie and Dale Schiff, all of Bismarck; her sons and daughter-in-law, Tom, Seattle, and Don and Mary, Bismarck; 29 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Barbara Kompish, Billings, Mont., and Sister Barbara Ann and Sister Juliana, both of Richardton; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Johnny and Doris Schwab, Hazen, and Ralph and Dot Schwab, Rapid City, S.D.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, who died Jan. 28, 1970; three sons, George, Johnny and Henry; five brothers, Jake, Frank, Hank, Anton and Michael; and four sisters, Madge Schwaboda, Eva Hagel, Eleanor Peterson and Helen Schorsch.
