Born July 22, 1935 to Amos Alonzo and Nellie Wallace Adkins, Jim was a retired employee of Triple A Woodworking and long time resident of Corydon Junction.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by four siblings; Eurvon, Weldon and Robert Adkins and Ruby Davis.
Jim is survived by those who called him "Dad": Terry Adkins of New Salisbury, Suzanne (Brent) Adkins, of Louisville, Doreen Adkins, of Clarksville, IN and Trent (Angie) Adkins, of Jeffersonville, IN; a granddaughter, Rachel Heatherly, who knew him as "Dappaw" and two grandchildren, Gabriel and Leah Adkins, who knew him as "Peepaw." He was brother to siblings, Dorothy Aliene Henry and Betty (Archie) Crone, both of New Salisbury and Paul (Marie) Adkins, of Depauw, IN. Jim is also survived by his ex-wife, Sarah Fancher Adkins, many loving nieces and nephews, a host of friends and his beloved animals: Gus, Sweetie and Jimmy's Toy.
