Emma Giere, of Montevideo, Minn., passed away at the age of 87. Emma Esther was born to Christ and Mathilda Kirschenmann. Emma grew up and attended school in Eureka, S.D., before moving to Montevideo. Emma was united in marriage to Joseph "Bert" Giere on May 30, 1939 in Montevideo. To this union one son, Dennis, was born. Emma was employed at the Woolworth Dime Store and the Arneson Drug Store. For 50 years, she not only worked for the Arneson's but considered them to be part of her family. She was an excellent seamstress and made all her own clothes. Emma was also known for being a creative handcrafter making handmade crosses for baptisms at church and her Hardanger needle point. She enjoyed collecting family photos, visiting with the "deck chicks" and spending time with her dog Princess. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, most recently her great-grandchildren in Nevada. Emma is survived by her son Dennis (Marcia) Giere of Spring Creek, Nev.; grandchildren Timothy (Starla) Giere of Spring Creek, Nev., Tami (Doug) Gailey of Elko, Nev.; five great-granddaughters Chantell, Jasmin and Emma Giere and Morgan and Kelsie Gailey; sisters Leona (Schutz) Winslow of Montevideo and Mae Reich of Fergus Falls, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews in addition to her Arneson family. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph 'Bert" Giere; her parents Christ and Mathilda; brother Alvin; brothers-in-law Albert Schutz, Amos, Harold and Silas Giere; sisters in-law Helen Hardy and Annie Kirschenmann; and stepfather Ed Wolff.
