In the early 1950s, Bert moved to California from North Dakota with his wife, Erna, and settled in Sacramento. He lived in Northgate since 1959. Bert worked at Fletcher's Ice Cream and Country Maid, ran the 7 Eleven on Northgate Boulevard until 1976, and owned Dobie's Drive in. He is survived by his children (and their spouses), Holly Pereira (John), Rick, and Wendy Harris (Greg); his two grandchildren, Emily Pereira and Adam Ketterling; his companion and partner of 20 years, Florence Lazarchik; her son Craig (Donna), their two sons Mathew and Lucas; Bert's brother, Eugene (Clara), and sister, Ruth; and many friends. Bert was an avid card player and he loved to dance. He enjoyed baseball, game shows, and life in general. He always had a smile on his face and a calm presence. His easy-going and fun-loving demeanor will be missed as he now dances in the stars. Services for Bert are being planned at Sacramento Memorial Lawn. An updated notice will be published in late October.
