The Rev. Lee Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Eureka City Cemetery with military graveside rites by Fred Weller American Legion Post No. 186. He died Jan. 10, 2009, at his home. Harvey Mehlhaff, son of Otto and Ann (Hochhalter) Mehlhaff, was born Feb. 20, 1928, on the family homestead near Eureka, S.D. After his mother's death, he was raised by his father and stepmother, Lydia (Hochhalter) Mehlhaff. He worked on the family farm. He entered the United States Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Washington at Hanford Site. He was honorably discharged and then returned to the family farm. He was united in marriage to Miletta Dockter on Oct. 17, 1954, in Venturia Reformed Church at Venturia, N.D. They made their home on the Mehlhaff family homestead where they were general farmers raising small grains, livestock and dairy. He worked as a crop adjuster for a short time and, for 20 years, he was a regional manager for Mallard Seed. Harvey enjoyed fishing on the Missouri River and spending time with his family. He was a member of Eureka Reformed Church and Fred Weller American Legion Post No. 186. He was one of the original American Legion Drill Squad members. Survivors include three sons...two daughters...five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
