Obituary for Frances Guthmiller
Funeral services for Frances Guthmiller, 91, Aberdeen, will be 2:00pm, Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, Pastor Erin Heidelberger officiating. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen. Frances died Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.
Visitation: 2:00-7:00pm, Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Frances Schoch was born January 13, 1926 to John and Katie (Kreitel) Schoch in Hosmer, SD. She grew up on a farm near Hosmer, where she received her education. Frances worked at Koerner Drug Store in Hosmer before moving to Aberdeen where she worked at Woolworth and Sand L. department stores.
On August 16, 1952, Frances was united in marriage to Milbert Guthmiller in Aberdeen, SD. They moved to Minneapolis, MN in 1956. Frances worked at Pilgrim’s Cleaners until retiring in 1988 after 32 years. Milbert passed away on February 20, 1990. Her son, Rick Guthmiller, died in 2010. In 2011, Frances moved to Eureka, SD to be close to her sister, Gladys. After three and a half years, she moved to Aberdeen.
A highlight for Frances when she lived in Eureka was joining the three-mile cattle drive every spring and fall with her nephew’s family. Her job was to drive the small Dodge pickup behind the cattle, making sure the little calves would keep up with the herd. She thoroughly enjoyed this and even this past spring was hoping she could be a part of it.
Frances enjoyed doing yard work and shoveling. She was a talented seamstress and made many curtains and clothes. In her younger years, Frances loved to dance. After Milbert died, she traveled a lot with her sister-in-law.
Grateful for having shared Frances’ life are her siblings: Marion Malsom, Aberdeen, Gladys Streifel, Eureka, SD; sister-in-law, Ann Schock, Sacramento, CA; and Milbert’s siblings: John Guthmiller, Aberdeen, Walter (Mickie) Guthmiller, Minneapolis, MN, Lillian Farnsworth, Rochester, MN, Delores Froid, New Hope, MN, Wilma Guthmiller, Wells, MN and Gladys Guthmiller, Lakeville, MN.
Preceding Frances in death are her parents, John and Katie, husband, Milbert, son, Rick, and her siblings: Ed Schoch, John Schoch, Helen Schwan, Eva Roesler, George Schoch and Harvey Schoch.
