Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 26, 2014 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Ladies of the Moose Ritual at 6:30, a CDA Rosary at 7:00 pm with a Parish Vigil at 7:15 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service.
Mary was born on October 30, 1913 to Clemens and Rosa (Keller) Doll in Morton County, ND. She married Anton Fitterer on October 23, 1934 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in rural Glen Ullin, ND. After their marriage she and Anton farmed in the Glen Ullin area until 1974 and then moved to Mandan. While in Glen Ullin she was active in the Christian Mothers and took on the many duties of a homemaker with love and dedication.
Her outgoing social personality combined with a sense of humor resulted in many social events. When playing cards, pinochle, in particular, she played a competitive game and wanted to win. Her sense of humor was evident in the practical jokes she liked to play resulting in many laughs. Her faith was always there. She walked to the church daily until she fell and broke her hip at the age of 91. She also volunteered many hours working with AID Inc. At a young age, Mary always wanted to be a teacher. Even though she could not fulfill her dream, she taught by example throughout her life. She especially enjoyed traveling, though the high points in her life were family gatherings with large meals. She loved cooking and baking for her family. Spending time with extended family and friends also meant a lot to her.
Mary will be deeply missed by daughters, Jan (Ray) Hoffman, Mandan, ND, Carlene Fitterer, Bismarck, ND and Diana (Jack) Jensen, Belle Fouche, SD; sons, Ray (Hilda), Bill (Eldean) and Ed (Shirley) all from Mandan, ND; 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Ed (Leona), Hannover, ND and sister-in-law, Venita Doll, Mandan, ND.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tony in 1987; son, Gary; daughter-in-law, Janice; sisters, Albertina (Gust) Hertz, Anna (Stanley) Hopfauf, Katie (Tony Miller, John Reisenauer) and Monica (Adam) Weinberger; brothers, Nick (Barbara) Doll, George Doll, and Steve Doll.
Memorials may be given to the Capital Campaign Fund at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
