  [S927] Obituary. Casper G. Berger Photo1 Casper G. Berger, 64, Belfield, died Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the Fargo V.A. Hospital. Casper’s Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Belfield with Father Shannon Lucht as celebrant. Interment will be Friday, April 30 at the ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan at noon MT. Visitation will be Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with a vigil at 5 p.m.. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to service time. Military honors will be provided by the Belfield American Legion William C. Blair Post #144. Casper Berger was born October 22, 1945 to Casper and Pauline (Weber) Berger at Mandan. He was raised and educated in New Salem and upon graduation from high school Casper attended Dickinson State Teachers College, Dickinson. After graduating with a teaching degree in mathematics, Casper taught geometry at Wolf Point, Mont.. Casper entered the US Army in June 1969 and was honorably discharged in December 1971. After his discharge, Casper returned to New Salem where he managed the Co-op grocery store. Casper married Marian Trautman on July 11, 1978 at Las Vegas, Nev. In 1980 Casper and Marian moved to Belfield and bought their own store, which they renamed Cap’s Jack and Jill. Together they operated the store until retiring in 2005. Casper loved to play pinochle, read, garden, eat and, go for walks. Time with his grandchildren was especially enjoyable. Casper was instrumental in starting a chapter of the ND Dollars for Scholars in Belfield and he later served as president of the Belfield chapter. He was a member of the Elks and volunteer Fire Department and served as the Fire Chief. Casper was an avid member of the Belfield American Legion Post #144 and is a past Commander and the Roosevelt Memorial Masonic Lodge #129 and past Master. Casper is survived by his wife, Marian, Belfield; four step-children, Clint (Wendy Nielson) Trautman, Powell, Wyo., Kim (Mike) Froehlich, Dickinson, Paula Ehrmantraut, Belfield, and Lisa (Jesse) Bobbitt, Wasilla, Alaska; nine step-grandchildren, Casey Trautman, Codee Trautman, Jennifer (Peter) Tupa, Kayla Krance, Markie Wermers, Jeremy and Wyatt Froehlich, Jennifer Patterson, and Jared Nielson; one step-great-grandchild, Aden Tupa; three brothers, Albert (Mary), Joseph (Sharon), and James (Renate); five sisters, Clara Wuertz, Anna Marie Hass, Mae Steele, Virginia Jones, and Delores (Pete) Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. Casper was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, John, Tony, Kenny, and Richard; two sisters, Monica Flindt and Isabel Brantner; one step-grandson, Cole Nielson and one infant brother.
