Loved Ones Who Have Gone to the Silent Land
Mrs. Joseph Bauer
Mrs. Joseph Bauer a resident of the town since 1870, passed away in death Monday morning at 8:30 o’clock, death claiming her while she was at the home of her son, Frank, residing one and one-half miles southwest of this city. Mrs. Bauer was ill about a year, suffering with diabetes and when death came, after untold suffering, it was for her a welcome relief.
Mrs. Bauer, whose maiden name was Gertrude Wagner, was born at Cleveland, Ohio on September 20, 1847. When she was three years of age, her parents settled in the town of Trenton and there she grew to young womanhood.
On January 18, 1870 she married Joseph Bauer and immediately the couple settled on the old Bauer homestead near this city. Later they moved onto the former Robinson farm, now occupied by Frank Bauer and there the husband and father died on December 25, 1909. Since then Mrs. Bauer made her home with her children, principally with the son, Frank.
Mrs. Bauer was the mother of eight children, one of whom died in infancy. Those surviving her are: John of Marshfield, Stephan, Frank and Phillip of town of West Bend, Mrs. Henry Thoma of Hartford and Peter and Henry of the city of West Bend. Mrs. Bauer also leaves one brother, Phillip Wagner of the town of Trenton, 29 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Her funeral will be held this morning under the auspices of the Catholic Church in this city, Rev. Edward Stehling officiating. Burial will be made in the Holy Angels Cemetery.
The death of Grandma Bauer has saddened many hearts and homes, because she was truly loved by all who knew her. During her long residence in the town of West Bend she became acquainted with the young and old alike and to all she was a dear friend - a woman of kindliness, of a lovable disposition and of the noblest of character. As a wife and mother she was the personification of all that was good and true and although she lived to a ripe age her passing away will leave a deep wound in the hearts of all her children, brother and other relatives, and it is to those we extend our sincere and heartfelt sympathy. Grandma Bauer lived such a noble life that she is now enjoying the reward promised to all who live as well - the reward of a heavenly home.
