Mass of Christian burial was held on Thursday, July 30, at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with Rev. Edwin Wehner as celebrant. Burial was at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Fallon. Leona was born March 20, 1930, in St. Anthony, to Peter H. and Rose (Leingang) Leingang. On June 19, 1951, she married Ed Schmidt in St. Anthony. After their marriage they moved to Ed’s family farm at Fallon. Having lived on a farm all her life, she was familiar with all aspects of a grain and cattle farm operation. Leona was involved in all of the duties and was up to the task as required. She was proudly dedicated to being a mother and housewife. Leona was best described as a kind and generous person as well as a wonderful cook. Any time spent together with family, friends and neighbors was enjoyed and the memories will be treasured. Left with fond memories is one daughter, Cloudine Schmidt, Fargo; two sons, Kenneth and Dennis Schmidt, both of Flasher; two sisters, Hildegard (Leo) Landeis, Mandan, and Shirley (Harry) Zander, Fargo; two brothers, Bill Leingang and Leo (Gladys) Leingang, both of Mandan; and two brothers-in-law, Ray Miller and Bernard Braun, both of Bismarck. Leona was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Ed, in 2004; her parents; an infant brother, Donald; two sisters, Anna Braun and Lillian Miller; and one sister-in-law, Viola Leingang.
