Emmerich, 99 of Wheeler, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016, at Newton Care Center in Newton.Oliver was born on October 28, 1916 in Jasper County, the son of Andrew and Anna R. (Meinhart) Emmerich. During World War II, Oliver served his country in the United States Army as a tank driver and his unit?s official barber. His unit saw combat in Northern Africa and Italy. On January 10, 1945, Oliver married Anna Clara Jansen. She preceded him in death on April 21, 1992. He spent his life as a livestock and grain farmer.His memberships include St. Isidore Parish, Men?s Sodality, Dieterich Post 628. Through the years, Oliver served as 4-H leader for the L&W Boys, ASCS Board, North Muddy Township Supervisor, North Muddy School Board, and as assessor. Being a forward thinker, Oliver supported the implementation of the R.E.A. and E-J Water. After his 80th birthday, Oliver was proud to have earned his GED. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed raising strawberries.
