Matt Hatzenbihler, 91, of Yakima, passed away Friday, January 18, 2008 at the Willow Springs Nursing Care Center.
Matt was born June 3, 1916 in Yucca, North Dakota to John and Barbara (Barnhardt) Hatzenbihler. He went to school for seven years until he was needed to help on the family farm. On October 3, 1939 he married Adeline Yantzer in Center, ND.
They farmed until 1947 when they moved to Yakima. Matt worked over 55 years as a carpenter before retiring. He was a member of St. Paul Cathedral until 1979 when they moved to Moxee and he attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Four years ago they moved back to Yakima where is a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. He is also a member of the Inernational Brotherhood of Carpenters, Carpenters Union Local #770, Fraternal Order of Eagles and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
Matt enjoyed his family, bowling, salmon fishing in the ocean and playing pinochle at every opportunity. Matt and Adeline were regular dancers and loved the old German Bands, especially the Accordion Delights. They especially enjoyed traveling full time in their motor home, wintering in Arizona for ten years.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Adeline Hatzenbihler of Yakima, a son Jim (Dorothy) Hatzenbihler of Garibaldi, OR and a daughter, Sheila (Steve) Kohls of Yakima; six grandchildren, Bryan Hatzenbihler, Richard Kohls, Douglas Kohls, Corinne Miller, Mark Tharp, and Kim Schmidt; also his godchild, Pat Todd and daughter Lynn Todd of Yakima; 11 great-grandchildren, and seven brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Kathy Tharp and two brothers and a sister.
Viewing will be Sunday, noon until 5:00 p.m. and Monday, noon until 8:00 p.m. at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. Vigil services will be Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial is Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Burial will follow in West Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Wishing Star Foundation, c/o Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. (Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home, Yakima)
