MERRIFIELD - Julia O. Shaffer, 97, of Merrifield, passed away Friday, April 30, 2010, at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby.
Services for Julia will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, at the Kingdom Hall in Brainerd. Friends are welcome to gather one and-a-half hours prior to services at the hall. Interment will follow services at the Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd. Guests are invited to a reception at the Brenny Funeral Chapel Reception Room immediately after the burial.
Julia was born Aug. 3, 1912, in Cambridge, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Ambrose and Elsie (Halverson) Scott. After graduating high school, Julia was united in marriage to James G. Shaffer in 1932. The couple owned and operated Shaffer's Shin-Wa Inn on Lake Hubert for many years before retiring in 1975. Julia was faithful in her worship, played the piano and enjoyed country music and the Bible. She was a loving, concerned and fair woman who cherished her family. She dearly loved the hope of living forever in paradise on the earth openly with others.
Julia will be missed by her children, Jeannette (John) Jones of Brainerd, Kathy (Keith) Beckheyer of Baxter, Margie (Roger) Blomberg of Nisswa, Joan (Rick) Stillwell of Princeton and Dean (Louise) Shaffer of Crosby; her daughter-in-law, Barbara Shaffer of Brainerd; nine grandchildren, Donna, Mike, Bob, Cameron, Jamie, Travis, Wade, Nicholas and Ashley; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James; her son, Jimmy; her parents; three brothers; and two sisters.
