George Henry Deffet's obituary appeared in the Columbus (OH) dispatch newspaper on October 13, 2004 DEFFET George Henry Deffet, age 72, of Flat Rock, NC, formerly of Upper Arlington, passed away October 8, 2004, at his daughter's home in Dublin, surrounded by his family after a battle with lung cancer. Proceeded in death by son John Michael, and parents Peter and Viola Deffet. A graduate from Aquinas High School and University of Dayton.
Survived by his wife, Rose of 48 years; 8 children and 17 grandchildren, Kathy Mraz, of Olympia, WA, Christine Huffman (Ken) of San Diego, CA, Dan (Sue) of Ostrander, Kevin (Martha Jackson) of Upper Arlington, Mary Gordon (Joe) of Dublin, Brian (Kara) of Toluca, Mexico, Michele Mancini (Domenick) of Columbus and Mark, of Columbus, Erin Taylor, Grant, Paris, Ethan Huffman, Colin, Brendan, Evan, Patrick Deffet, Casey, Alex, Kaitlyn Gordon, William, Jacob, Claire Deffet, Anthony, Nicholas, Lena Mancini; sister, Jeanne Rainoldi; brothers, Joe, Jim and Tom Deffet.
A successful entrepreneur, he held careers in real estate and singing. George was an early pioneer of multi-family development and strong proponent of open housing. Other passions included acting, writing, painting, golfing and bicycling through Europe with Rose and friends. George's final request was to make an anatomical donation to the Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Monday October 11, 2004 at the EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME 403 E. Broad St. A Celebration Mass will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at St. Thomas More Newman Center, 64 West Lane Ave., parking in rear.
