A funeral service for Lorna Bender, 70, of Bismarck, formerly of Almont, will be 11:00 a. m. CDT, Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Sims Skandinavian Evangelical Lutheran Church, Almont, ND with Pastor Bill Dodd officiating. Visitation for Lorna will be from 6:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. CDT, Monday, December 29, 2014 at Spangelo-Stevenson Funeral Home, Glen Ullin, NDLorna passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Marion Manor in Glen Ullin, North Dakota. Lorna Renee Monson was born on August 4, 1944 near Almont, ND, the daughter of Oscar and Cora (Seim) Monson. She grew up attending Benson Country School, graduating from Almont High School 1962. After attending BSC, Lorna began working in the accounting department of Montana Dakota Utilities. She worked in this position until she retired after 46 years of service. On March 1, 1969, Lorna married Donald D Bender at Sims Skandinavian Evangelical Lutheran Church. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Monica. The family made their home in Bismarck while continuing to work at the Monson family farm near Sims. Lorna found it refreshing to leave after a busy work week and spend the weekend on the farm. She was very involved in the Sims Skandinavian Evangelical Lutheran Church, and planning the annual MDU Christmas party. She had a passion for horses and Hereford cattle that she has passed on to Monica and her boys. The farm was her pride and joy, taking second place only to raising her daughter and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. Lorna is survived by her husband, Donald Bender of Glen Ullin; daughter, Monica Bender of Mandan; grandsons, Kenton and Colten; sister, Leona (August) Schaaf of Glen Ullin; “adopted daughters”, Sarah McDowall and Kate Ellsworth; sister-in-law, Marlene Bender of Bismarck; sister-in-law and brother-n-law, Marie and Dwaine Helm of Fargo; and numerous nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Cora Monson; brother-in-law, Robert Bender; and infant brothers-in-law, Dean Bender, Richard Bender and Norman Bender.
