Robert L. Carson, 76, of Fallowfield Twp., died on Thurs., March 1, 2012. Born on Feb. 2, 1936, in Fallowfield Twp., he was the son of the late Stephen Edward and Bertha Coven Carson.
He was a member of the former SS. Cyril and Methodius Parish, now a part of Mary, Mother of the Church, where he married his wife of 54 years, Patricia A. Petrak, on Oct. 26, 1957. He was retired as a pipefitter for Power Piping Company, in Donora, where he spent 25 years, and was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union #354.
Since his retirement in 1996, he and his wife spent a majority of their time at their camp at Mosquito Lake, Ohio. Robert loved to camp, hunt, and fish with his friends, sons, and grandsons. He was a dedicated father, who was the focal point of his family, and was always there whenever needed. He was a Boy Scout Master for Troop 1420, of Fallowfield Twp., and he inspired many young men toward their Eagle Scout rank, including his son, Robert and two of his grandsons. Robert was described as a "natural lead-by-example leader". He was always involved with his sons sporting events and the band boosters. He was also an avid sports fan, especially the Penguins.
Robert is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Petrak Carson; sons, Robert L. (Marilyn Bertovich) Carson, Jr., of Fallowfield Twp., and Wayne A. (Mary Rabe) Carson, of Charleroi; grandsons, Steven R (Nancy) Carson, Kevin M. Carson, Dylan W. Carson, Randy L. Carson, and Brad Rabe; great granddaughter, Katalina Zaladonis, brother, Wilbur Carson, of Sherman, TX; sister-in-law, Eleanor Carson, of Roscoe; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, Roy, Donald, Eugene, Millard, and Merlin Carson; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Mary Petrak.
Friends will be received on Sunday, March 4, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the CARL J. SPALLINO FUNERAL HOME, 819 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi. A blessing service will be held on Monday, at 10 a.m., in the funeral home, with Rev. Gerald Mikonis, celebrating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
