Dorothy Cerneka
Dorothy Marie Cerneka, nee Erwin, 89, of Swansea, Ill., born June 10, 1920, in Fairview Heights, Ill., passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Belleville, Ill.
Mrs. Cerneka grew up in Swansea, Ill., and graduated from High Mount School, where all her children also graduated. She attended Belleville High School and was so proud to have later returned to school where she received her GED. Dorothy loved being a stay at home mom, sewing, quilting and volunteering. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, the Swansea Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for 60 years, Women of the Moose, Swansea Lodge 1221, Swansea Seniors, and a past member of Swansea Playground Association. She also belonged to the High Mount School Mother's Club, and was a Cub Scout Den Mother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl "Charlie" Cerneka; her parents, William Alois Erwin and Ida, nee Herzig, Erwin Oesterle; her daughter, Paula Ida Reeves; and her brother, Alois "Bud" Erwin.
Surviving are her son, Carl Alois (Charlotte) Cerneka of Buford, Ga.; her daughter, Marla Marie (Michael) Price of Smithton, Ill.; grandsons, Jeffrey Carl (Pam) Cerneka of Buford, Ga., Mark Charles (Ruth) Cerneka of Snellville, Ga., Christopher Scott Cerneka of Hollywood, Calif., Curtis Michael (Teresa) Price of Edwardsville, Ill., Keith Alan (Christina) Price of Belleville, Ill., Gregory Charles (Cassandra) Price of Belleville, Ill., Steven Lloyd Price of Smithton, Ill., and Jonathan Michael Reeves of Belleville, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Carly, and Sidney Cerneka, William and Daphne Cerneka, Matia Price, Claire Price, Zoe Price, and Violet Price; son-in-law, Frank Reeves of Belleville, Ill.; sister-in-law, Rose Kern of Belleville, Ill.; dear friend, Dorothy Fietsam; and cousins, many nieces, nephews and friends.
