McGowan, 61, of Monroe, MI., owner of the Pier House Restaurant, C & H Welding, The LaPlaisance Creek Marina and McGowan Enterprises, died of heart failure Sunday, Feb. 7, 1988, in the Detroit Receiving Hospital. Friends may call after 7 pm tonight, Feb. 8, 1988 in the Allore-Sprow Funeral Home where the rosary will be recited at 4 pm Tuesday. Services will be held at 9:30 am Wednesdsay in the funeral home and at 10:00 am in St. John's Catholic Church. The Rev. Walter Ptak will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe. He had owned The Pier House since its opening in 1982. He had owned C & H Welding since 1961, The LaPlaisance Creek Marina since 1975 and was president and owner of McGowan Enterprises. He was the son of Charles and Helen (Livernois) McGowan Sr. He was married Aug. 20, 1966 to Laurine Longhurst in St. Joseph Church. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII, serving from Nov 23, 1943 to May 21, 1946. He was a member of St. John's Church, the Monroe Sertoms Club,Monroe Post 1138, Veterans of Foreign Wars; Carl F Payson Post 60, American Legion; the Monroe Boat Club; Robert A. Hutchinson Monroe Lodge 113, Fraternal Order of Police (a life member); the American Welding Society, and the Toledo Yacht Club. Surviving are his wife; 7 sons, Cornelius (Connie), Charles, Jr. (Mickey), Joseph, Thomas, William and Shaun, all of Monroe and Raymond Fritz of Monroe; 5 daughters; Laurae Fritz of California, Mrs Ann Marie Middleton of Texas, Mrs Patricia Shorter, Mrs Larry (Roseanne) Stutsman and Miss Andrea Fritz, all of Monroe; 3 sisters, Mrs. Ed (Elizabeth) Raymond, and Mrs. Willene Stevenson, both of California and Mrs. Jay (Rose Marie) Finley of Monroe; 20 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
